FRIEDA ROSE AND THE UNTRAPPED PET (August Postcard Poetry 2018)

Her mother held no fondness for pets

Her father held no love for wives

Frieda Rose was obsessed with her desire

for a porcupine

She set traps in the yard

baited them with potato chips and gum

Checked every morning

Finding only toothpicks

Which the old man next door

Identified as quills.
